This live-action movie reimagines the classic manga series, ‘City Hunter,’ for a modern audience
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The highly anticipated action-adventure film ‘City Hunter’ from Netflix is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform on Thursday, April 25. Yûichi Satô’s film is a widely popular reimagining of the classic manga ‘City Hunter.’
If you want a sense of the manga’s popularity, it’s worth noting that it has been successfully adapted for screens many times before. A notable example is the 2011 South Korean series ‘City Hunter,’ starring acclaimed actor Lee Min-ho, which garnered immense popularity. The movie centers around the film’s protagonist, Ryo Saeba (Ryohei Suzuki), a talented marksman and a playboy.
His life takes a dramatic turn when he teams up with Kaori Makimura (Misato Morita), the sister of his late partner Hideyuki Makimura (Masanobu Andô), to uncover the truth surrounding Hideyuki’s untimely death.
In an interview with Crunchyroll, original manga creator Tsukasa Hojo spoke about the filming sites, revealing that the movie is shot in the Shinjuku and Kabukicho neighborhoods where the famous manga is set.
Shinjuku City, Tokyo
The iconic filming location is a perfect match for the movie, given that the original manga is also set in the same area. This adds credibility to the film.
Shinjuku, popularly recognized as the busiest train station globally, is renowned as both a bustling business hub during the day and a vibrant entertainment center at night.
Shinjuku, a central ward of Tokyo, is often regarded as the metropolis’ second center. Beyond its bustling station, the area boasts flourishing businesses, including commercial and entertainment centers.
Numerous public institutions, including schools, universities, public libraries, museums, and halls, are also located all across the city.
Kabukicho, Tokyo
Kabukicho is a renowned entertainment district, celebrated for its vibrant and dynamic adult nightlife scene.
Kabukicho is renowned for its pubs, nightclubs, and hostess clubs, earning it the nickname of Tokyo’s largest red-light district.
Beyond the usual nightlife scene, the neighborhood provides a wide range of entertainment alternatives, including themed cafés, robot restaurants featuring eye-catching performances, and eccentric tiny pubs in Golden Gai.
Although Kabukicho is well-known for its nightlife, you can also visit several tourist destinations, including the famous Samurai Museum.
