“Don’t you get it? It’s not you vs. me, it’s us vs. them.” Sky Cinemas has revealed an official trailer for a fun family adventure movie called Robin and the Hoods, set for a release in the UK this summer. This Sky Original Film creation is the latest directed by film geek filmmaker Phil Hawkins, probably best known for the fan film Star Wars: Origins and the most recent Prancer: A Christmas Tale (2022) update. This time he reinvents Robin Hood as a fresh new urban tale. For the tenacious 11-year-old Robin and her loyal band of friends ‘The Hoods‘, the patch of overgrown scrubland at the end of their cul-de-sac is a magical kingdom. When a property developer wants to take it over, the kids fight back and do everything they can to get their parents to speak out and stop the gentrification. Starring Darcey Ewart as Robin, with Naomie Harris, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Williams, Bruno Edgington-Gibson, Gloria Ishikawa, Dexter Sol Ansell, Eddison Burch, Tom Goodman-Hill, and Christine Bottomley. Yeah this is actually looking pretty rad! And it reminds me of The Kid Who Would Be King, with the same sense of adventure as that one.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Phil Hawkins’ film Robin and the Hoods, direct from YouTube:
For the tenacious 11-year-old Robin (Darcey Ewart) and her loyal band of friends ‘The Hoods’, the patch of overgrown scrubland at the end of their cul-de-sac is a magical kingdom. Sticks and bin lids have become swords and shields, drones have become majestic eagles and the hippy lady in the forest (Christie) is a terrifying witch. The only thing limiting their colourful imagination is the prospect of losing their kingdom forever. When the slippery property developer Clipboard (Harris) turns up and dazzles the parents of the area with promises of health spas and day-care facilities, Robin and The Hoods’ world is faced with an existential threat. Despite all their best efforts, their protests fall on deaf ears. When their parents can’t see the wood for the trees, Robin and her friends take matters into their own hands to defend their kingdom.
Robin and the Hoods is directed by British producer / filmmaker Phil Hawkins, director of the films The Butterfly Tattoo, Being Sold, The Last Showing, Four Warriors, and Prancer: A Christmas Tale previously, plus the Star Wars: Origins fan film, and many other shorts. The screenplay is written by Stuart Benson & Paul Davidson. Produced by Claudia Bluemhuber and Matt Williams as a Sky Original Film. Sky Cinema will release Robin and the Hoods streaming in the UK starting sometime this summer. Stay tuned for updates.
