Netflix has just dropped the trailer for The Electric State, an eagerly awaited sci-fi film adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s acclaimed graphic novel. Set in an alternate reality where humans and machines coexist, this visually stunning film promises a captivating journey through a retro-futuristic version of the 1990s.

The story follows Michelle, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown, an orphaned teen navigating a complex society. In this world, sentient robots—once beloved companions—have been cast into exile following a failed uprising. Michelle’s life takes a dramatic turn when she is visited by Cosmo, a quirky and enigmatic robot linked to her younger brother, Christopher, whom she believed to be dead. This revelation propels Michelle on a quest across the American Southwest to find her lost sibling.

The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Chris Pratt as Keats, a low-rent smuggler who becomes an unlikely ally, and Anthony Mackie, who lends his voice to Herman, Keats’ wisecracking robot sidekick. The cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, Woody Norman, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk, each bringing their unique flair to this richly imagined world.

As Michelle and her new companions navigate the Exclusion Zone—a desolate area where robots live independently—they encounter a colorful cast of animatronic allies. Together, they uncover a deeper, more sinister plot behind Christopher’s disappearance, testing their resolve and forcing them to confront the complexities of their world.

Directed by the Russo Brothers, known for their work on the Avengers series, The Electric State promises to deliver stunning visuals and a gripping narrative. The screenplay is penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ensuring a blend of heartfelt storytelling and action-packed adventure.

The Electric State is set to premiere on March 14, 2025, and with its blend of nostalgia, adventure, and cutting-edge visual effects, it is poised to capture the imaginations of audiences everywhere. The trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse into a world where the line between technology and humanity blurs, inviting viewers to embark on an unforgettable journey alongside Michelle and her eclectic crew.
