Ryan Gosling is set to star in a space adventure movie entitled Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, Deadline reported.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Project Hail Mary centers on schoolteacher and former molecular biologist Ryland Grace (Gosling) who wakes up from a coma on a spaceship afflicted with amnesia. Grace had been set on a mission to figure out a solution to a global dimming event, which would plunge Earth into an Ice Age in the next 30 years.
After waking from his coma with no memory of the past, Grace must draw on his scientific knowledge to carry out the mission.
Amazon’s MGM Studios bought the rights to Weir’s novel prior to its publication in 2020 for $3 million USD. Drew Goddard, who previously wrote the script for Weir’s other book-to-film adaptation The Martian, is also writing the Project Hail Mary script.
Project Hail Mary already has a release date of March 20, 2026.
