- The Get Out Kids is a series of interactive puzzles set in a Goonies-esque horror film
- A throwback to the 80s, this former Apple Arcade exclusive is available now on the App Store proper
- And the best part? It’s absolutely free
The 80s was a great decade for horror, kids’ films and horror-focused kids films. Think The Goonies, Monster Squad or other mainstays, and if you grew up with parents who appreciated these classics you probably know how entertaining they can be. And developer Frosty Pop seem to agree with their hit title The Get Out Kids, out now on the iOS App Store.
A former Apple Arcade-exclusive, The Get Out Kids follows best friends, Molly and Salim when their attempt to sneak out for a showing of Ghostblasters at the drive-in goes awry. Now they have to explore a variety of spooky locations and solve puzzles to find their lost dog Moses.
Okay, it’s not exactly Shakespeare, but The Get Out Kids has plenty of interesting mechanics with the action playing out in 3D diorama levels. A narrative puzzle experience, The Get Out Kids also includes seven arcade-inspired mini-games to really up the retro ante. The best part? It’s also absolutely free!
Spooktacular
Love it or loathe it, thanks to shows like Stranger Things the 80s kid-friendly horror aesthetic is very much a modern convention of both film and video games. But I really do like the look of The Get Out Kids, but then that might be because I’m a sucker for the 3D diorama aesthetic. Still, for the low, low price of free, you can’t go wrong with giving it a go!
