A new fear is crawling into theatres soon. Sony has dropped the first look at Anaconda and this one is nothing like the 1997 jungle thriller. Instead of sticking to the old formula, the film takes a sharp turn with Paul Rudd and Jack Black leading a chaotic adventure that is both funny and scary.
The movie comes from Tom Gormican, best known for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. While the title might bring back memories of Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Jon Voight fighting a deadly reptile, this version goes in a completely different direction. It is not a remake but a story about two friends trying to recreate their favourite movie but soon find themselves trapped in a real jungle nightmare.
Paul Rudd And Jack Black At The Center
Paul stars as Griff, a background actor while Jack plays Doug, a wedding videographer, who have always dreamed of remaking their favourite movie: Anaconda. They soon decide to chase their dream but their plan to secure a $2 million loan to fund the film crashes quickly. Refusing to give up, they rope in a snake handler, hire a boat and head into the Amazon with a tiny budget and big hopes.
When The Snake Goes Missing
As fate would have it, their hired reptile meets an unfortunate end after being caught in a boat propeller.
“This is Anaconda, and we no longer have a snake for our snake movie. We have to go out in the jungle and find another one,” Black declares in the trailer. This decision, of course, unleashes the real danger: a massive, man-eating anaconda that soon sets its sights on the crew.
Comedy In The Chaos
The trailer makes it clear that the movie is not only about danger. It is packed with hilarious beats too. In one sequence, the group assumes Doug is dead and dresses him up as bait to distract the snake. Things take a hilarious turn when it becomes clear that Doug isn’t actually dead. And all of this unfolds to a remix of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back with the iconic line, “My anaconda don’t want none.”
The film has been backed by Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under their banner Fully Formed Entertainment.
