Beloved 90s Action Movie Reboot Lands Transformers Director
A popular 90s crime action film is set to be rebooted, with a new report suggesting that a director has already been tapped for the film.
What 90s action movie is getting rebooted?
According to a new report from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Set It Off, the 1996 film about four female friends who execute a bank robbery, is being rebooted. On top of that, Steven Caple, who directed 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has been tapped to direct the project.
Sneider notes that Issa Rae (Insecure) is set to be one of the leads of the film, and is also set to produce the project. Syreeta Singleton (One of Them Days) and Nina Gloster (Star) will write the film. No further casting information alongside Rae is known as of yet.
The original film was directed by F. Gary Gray, and featured a star-studded cast, including Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimberly Elise, the latter of whom was making her acting debut. Alongside the quartet, the film also starred John C. McGinley, Blair Underwood, Anna Maria Horsford, Ella Joyce, and more.
The film was praised upon its premiere, and earned $41 million at the box office. The soundtrack to the film was also a massive success, and featured several singles that charted, with the album also peaking at number four on the Billboard 200, and number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
