Better Man soundtrack – all the Robbie Williams songs in the film
Better Man has now landed in cinemas to tell the rise and fall and resurrection of Robbie Williams.
As ever with a music biopic, you can expect to hear a lot of Robbie Williams classics in the new movie, and a couple of Take That classics as an added bonus. Williams has even provided a new song for the credits, which was on the shortlist for an Oscar nomination (more on that in a bit).
But much like the choice to portray him as a CGI chimpanzee, Better Man doesn’t take a conventional route in choosing which songs to include in the movie. His hits have been reimagined to fit different stages of his life so, for instance, ‘Feel’ is sung by a younger version of Williams watching his dad abandon him.
So if you’re heading to see Better Man at the cinema this Christmas, we’re here to help with a rundown of every song you can expect to hear.
Better Man soundtrack: All the Robbie Williams songs in the movie
There are some notable misses that you’d have expected to hear in Better Man, such as ‘No Regrets’, ‘Millennium’ and ‘Supreme’.
We also regret to inform you that ‘Somethin’ Stupid’ with Nicole Kidman is nowhere to be seen, and neither is ‘Kids’ with Kylie Minogue. But perhaps they’re being held back for a sequel if the movie is a hit.
There’s still plenty to enjoy in Better Man though, with each track re-recorded for the movie so that they’re not just the standard versions you’ll hear.
Here’s the Better Man soundtrack in full:
• ‘Feel’
• ‘I Found Heaven’
• ‘Rock DJ’
• ‘Relight My Fire’
• ‘Come Undone’
• ‘She’s the One’
• ‘Something Beautiful’
• ‘Land of 1000 Dances’
• ‘Angels’
• ‘Let Me Entertain You’
• ‘Better Man’
• ‘My Way’
• ‘Forbidden Road’
As mentioned above, the Better Man soundtrack – and the movie – ends with a new Robbie Williams song called ‘Forbidden Road’.
“The film is such an emotionally exposing experience, and while I found Rob incredibly daring for allowing the narrative to venture into those dark places, I knew it would evoke a great vulnerability,” Michael Gracey explained in the production notes.
“It was this response – his reaction to seeing the fable of his life unfold on screen – that I wanted to capture in the original song.”
Williams added: “Over the last two years, I sent Michael a few songs for consideration, but none of them matched his vision. I didn’t understand why until I’d seen the finished film, and then I totally got it. That’s when and how ‘Forbidden Road’ came about.”
Initially, ‘Forbidden Road’ was one of 15 songs on the shortlist for Best Original Song at the Oscars, meaning we could have seen Williams perform at the ceremony.
However it was later disqualified because it was not wholly original and “incorporates material from an existing song that was not written for the film” (via Variety).
