World Radio Day is observed on February 13 annually. The day is meant to celebrate radio’s limitless potential as a vital medium of entertainment and communication. Over the years, Bollywood has given us several movies that depict the power of radio.

Movies like Rang De Basanti and Lage Raho Munna bhai, which showcase the significance of radio, became critically acclaimed blockbusters. On World Radio Day 2025, here are top five movies to watch that showcase the power of radio.

1. ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ (Prime Video)

Lage Raho Munna Bhai, a sequel to Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. has Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi reprising their roles. Boman Irani is seen as a cunning builder, Lucky Singh, who wants to take over a property that houses a bunch of senior citizens.

Munna Bhai falls for a radio jockey, Jhanvi, just by listening to her voice. Incidentally, the property belongs to her grandfather. Munna Bhai and Jhanvi take the help of radio to fight off Lucky Singh. They also use Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent principles to deal with Lucky Singh.

2. ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ (Prime Video)

This film is a biopic set against the backdrop of India’s struggle for freedom in 1942. It is based on the life of Usha Mehta, a brave young woman who started an underground radio station to spread the message of unity, leading to a thrilling chase with the British authorities during the Quit India Movement.

3. ‘Rang De Basanti’ (Netflix)

The chilling climax scene of Rang De Basantitakes place at a radio station where DJ (Aamir Khan) and his friends get nabbed. The group decides to clarify their intent for assassinating the Defense Minister by taking over All India Radio Station.

The movie is based on a group of directionless friends in Delhi who get inspired by Indian freedom fighters.

4. ‘Tumhari Sulu’ (Prime Video)

A bored housewife takes the path unexplored and faces flak from her family and society. She takes up a night shift at a radio station where people call her with their problems and she talks to them tenderly.

Things turn chaotic when he learns that his ex-wife is present at the bomb target sites. Mrunal Thakur and Amruta Subhash also star in crucial roles.
