Ali Fazal has made his mark in Indian and international cinema with roles in Furious 7, Victoria & Abdul, and Death on the Nile. He remains focused on Hindi cinema.

Ali Fazal has worked in both Bollywood and Hollywood movies.
Ali Fazal has steadily built a presence in both Indian and international cinema, with roles in global projects like Furious 7, Victoria & Abdul, Death on the Nile, and Kandahar. But in a recent chat with Hindustan Times, the actor admitted that trying to balance both industries hasn’t been easy and has come at a cost.
“It is tough,” Ali said, speaking about the challenges of juggling two film worlds. “The real hard part is that I lose out a lot. There are two to three projects that I feel bad at losing out on. My colleagues have done them and done a good job, so it would be unfair to name them. But it’s all good. I am happy for them.”
He also spoke about how long breaks from Indian screens can lead to people thinking he’s inactive. “There is a common complaint when people say ‘tum itna dikhte nahi ho (you aren’t seen much)’. But what can I do when I am trying to balance the two industries? I have seen the other side, so I want to do more work there,” he explained.
When asked about why his big Hollywood projects don’t often make headlines in India the way others do, Ali was candid. “I am not oblivious to it. I don’t have an ‘I don’t care’ attitude. I do care. At the end of the day, we are presenting ourselves, and I want to do that,” he said.
Now, Ali is focusing more on Hindi cinema. He recently appeared in Anurag Basu’s romantic drama Metro In Dino. Up next, he’ll be seen in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947, which also stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, and Shabana Azmi. He’ll also return as Guddu Pandit in Mirzapur: The Movie, which will serve as the final chapter to the hit series.
Ali Fazal made his screen debut with a small role in the film The Other End of the Line in 2008 before appearing in the television miniseries Bollywood Hero (2009). Ali Fazal made his Hindi film debut with a supporting role in 3 Idiots (2009). He later appeared in films like Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011), Baat Ban Gayi (2013), and Bobby Jasoos (2014). His breakthrough came with the comedy Fukrey (2013), followed by notable roles in Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016) and Fukrey Returns (2017). Around the same time, he ventured into international cinema, appearing in a small role in Furious 7 (2015) and earning acclaim for his lead role as Abdul Karim in Victoria & Abdul (2017).
