Beach sequences have consistently piqued Bollywood”s interest; love scenes, upbeat dance numbers, and dramatic confrontations frequently take place there. Now that the temperatures are rising again and summer is in full spirit, let’s witness some Bollywood movies that are set against the backdrop of crashing waves and golden sands.

Dil Chahta Hai

Dil Chahta Hai is a fan favourite and is an absolute delight to watch. This movie transformed the depiction of friendship and romance among young Indians. The scenes on the beaches and other various locations of Goa capture the spirit of carefree youth and lifelong connections. This film is directed by Farhan Akhtar and stars Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Priety Zinta and Dimple Kapadia. 

Dostana

This romantic comedy stars Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in pivotal roles and the film is directed by Tarun Mansukhani. The plot revolves around Kunal and Sam who pretend to be a gay couple to easily get an apartment. In this process, both of them end up falling in love with their roommate, Neha. The movie showcases the vibrant life on the beaches of Miami, Florida while Kunal and Sam compete for Neha”s love, only to discover that she loves someone else. 

Golmaal Film Series

Rohit Shetty’s comedy franchise is shot all over Goa. The beachy set up of this comedy of errors starring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade is a perfect insight to Goa’s attractions. The basic plot of all the films revolves around four friends who get in trouble with gangsters due to money laundering.

Go Goa Gone

The title of the film only has Goa in it so you obviously expect palm trees, beaches and sand. The film is also partly shot on the beautiful islands of Mauritius.Three buddies plan to go to a remote island for a rave party while they are in Goa. However, they awaken to find themselves not only surrounded but also being hunted by zombies. This horror comedy stars Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Anand Tiwari and Vir Das in pivotal roles and is directed by Raj Nidimorou and Krishna D.K.

Break Ke Baad

This gem of a rom-com starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone is directed by Danish Aslam. It features the decade long friendship of Aaliya and Abhay which involves their love story, long distance relationship and fights. The film is a great example of a beachy Bollywood film as it is partly set on the lively sunny beaches of Australia and the aesthtics and outfits scream summer.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

This film directed by Zoya Akhtar starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin.The film revolves around a bachelor trip in Spain and three lifelong friends embrace the ‘carpe diem’ spirit.  They overcome their worries and unresolved difficulties somewhere between flamenco, adventure sports, and tomato fights. The film is set against the beautiful beaches and water bodies of Spain. The aesthetically pleasing backgrounds, feel-good music and summery outfits really bring out the summer holiday spirit.

Dear Zindagi

This romantic drama set amidst the streets and beaches of Goa focuses on the theme of good mental health through the highs and lows of a young cinematographer’s career and relationships. She gains a fresh outlook on life as a result of her interaction with Jug, an unusual thinker. She learns that seeking comfort in life”s flaws is the key to happiness. This film directed by Gauri Shinde stars Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan in central roles.

Gehraiyaan

Gehraiyaan is a relationship drama film that has a glamorous cast comprising Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa. The director Shakun Batra takes you on a journey of the deep complexities of modern human relationships through its intense story, the calm background of the beaches of Alibaug and Goa and the sombre music. The colours of blue and white dominate the visuals, giving you the impression of being at the beach and making it a perfect summer watch.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar



This romantic comedy directed by Luv Ranjan stars Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in pivotal roles. This is a story about a boy and girl who meet on a lovely holiday, flirt, fall in love and fall out of love. This film is vibrant and captivating as it beautifully captures the scenic beauty of Spain’s beaches. 

Madgaon Express



This film marks actor Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut and stars Divyendu Sharma, Pratik Gandhi and Avinash Tiwary. It is an end to end comedy that follows the story of three childhood friends who go to Goa for a vacation which completely goes off track due to a sequence of terrible decisions. The film perfectly captures the  vibe of Goa and is a perfect example of a beachy Bollywood film.
