Best Or Worst Release Date?

May 20, 20242 Mins Read

Recently Kamal Haasan dropped exciting news for fans: Indian 2 is slated for a theatrical release in July. The official confirmation from the makers sets the date on July 12, 2024, for this vigilante action thriller directed by Shankar.

Indian (1996), made waves as an industry hit in Tamil, while also carving its mark in Telugu (Bharatheeyudu) and Hindi (Hindustani), boasting smashing box office figures.

Its success, particularly in the Hindi market with approximately 2 crore footfalls, adds to the immense anticipation surrounding the sequel.

On July 12th, two more big films are releasing in Hindi. Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira and John Abraham’s Vedaa.

Indian 2 doesn’t have many factors going in its favor except that it has some recall value. No one can predict what would be its collections on the opening day collections just because of its recall factor.

And now it is clashing with two big Bollywood films which will further dent its box office prospects.

On the other hand, Akshay Kumar is going through the worst phase of his career. His films are opening at 2 crore collections on the first day. On top of it, Sarfira is the official remake of Sudha Kongara’s OTT film Soorarai Pottru. So the makers of Indian 2 must be assuming such a film won’t pose much competition to their film.

John Abraham’s Vedaa is also allegedly a remake of Ajith’s Vedaalam (Bholaa Shankar) (though not confirmed) and it is also not much to be feared about.

Despite a three-way clash, Indian 2 should get the best opening in Hindi.

The promotional campaign kicks off on May 22 with the release of the first single in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
