Back in 2008, Aamir Khan’s Ghajini was the first Indian film to hit Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office. In 2010, Shah Rukh Khan’s My Name is Khan became the first Indian film to hit Rs 100 crore at the overseas box office.
17 years later, the Bollywood box office collection went from Rs 100 crore to Rs 1000 crore with eight Indian films doing the magical number at the worldwide box office and only two films doing it in India alone.

1. Dangal (2016)
The Nitesh Tiwari directed sports biopic based on the life of wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat and their father and renowned coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, Dangal was the biggest grosser of Indian cinema at the time of its release.
The Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra starrer made Rs 715 crore worldwide in its initial run.
However, a year later, the film released in China and left everyone stunned when it did over Rs 1200 crore in the neighbouring country taking Dangal’s worldwide box office total to Rs 1968 crore.
2. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
Directed by SS Rajamouli, the sequel to the 2015 blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubatibecame the biggest Indian grosser at the time of its release.
The film made Rs 1744 crore at the worldwide box office including biz from China and Japan.
3. Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024)
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule is a sequel to the 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise. Starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, Pushpa 2: The Rule broke all previous records at the Hindi box office and became the first Indian film to go past Rs 700 crore and Rs 800 crore mark in Hindi.
At the worldwide box office, the Telugu action entertainer made Rs 1642 crore.
4. RRR (2022)
SS Rajamouli’s Telugu action epic starring NTR Jr, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn became a global phenomenon and went on to win Golden Globes as well as Oscars.
At the worldwide box office, RRR made Rs 1253 crore and is currently the fourth highest grossing Indian film of all time.
5. KGF: Chapter 2 (2022)
Starring Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Srinidhi Shetty, KGF: Chapter 2 directed by Prashanth Neel is the biggest Kannada blockbuster and the fifth biggest Indian grosser of all-time.
The mass action entertainer made Rs 1190 crore at the worldwide box office.
6. Jawan (2023)
Shah Rukh Khan starrer mega-blockbuster Jawan is currently the highest grossing Hindi film in India. The Atlee directorial also featured Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in prominent roles and is the sixth biggest Indian grosser of all-time.
It made Rs 1160 crore at the worldwide box office.
7. Pathaan (2023)
Another Shah Rukh Khan starrer in the list, Pathaan directed by Siddharth Anand and co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham became the highest grossing Hindi film in India at the time of its release.
It also became the first Indian film to hit Rs 1000 crore in a single language. The spy action entertainer has collected Rs 1055 crore at the worldwide box office and is currently the seventh biggest Indian grosser of all time globally.
8. Kalki 2898 AD (2024)
The Nag Ashwin directorial fantasy epic starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan crawled to Rs 1000 crore box office globally.
It is currently the eighth biggest Indian grosser of all time with lifetime box office run of Rs 1042 crore globally.
9. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)
Touted as the best film and performance of Salman Khan, Kabir Khan’s much-loved and acclaimed social drama became a big box office blockbuster and collected Rs 602 crore back in 2015.
However, post its release in China, the film’s worldwide box office rose to a massive Rs 922 crore making it the ninth biggest Indian grosser of all time.
10. Animal (2023)
The biggest A-rated grosser of Indian cinema, the highly controversial film is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starred Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in the lead roles.
Animal is currently the 10th biggest Indian grosser of all time at the worldwide box office earning Rs 915 crore.

1. Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024)
The Allu Arjun starrer is the third biggest worldwide grosser but is the highest grossing film in India. It is one of the only two Indian films in history to make over Rs 1000 crore domestically.
Pushpa 2: The Rule’s all-India box office stands at Rs 1233 crore.
2. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
Up until the release of Pushpa 2: The Rule in December 2024, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was the only Indian film to hit Rs 1000 crore in India.
The Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Ramya Krishnan starrer collected Rs 1030 crore at the all-India box office and is the second biggest domestic grosser.
3. KGF: Chapter 2 (2022)
The Yash starrer is the third biggest grosser in India. It made Rs 860 crore at all-India level out of which Rs 434 crore came from the dubbed Hindi version alone.
4. RRR (2022)
The Oscar winning global blockbuster was a massive hit in India as well. The SS Rajamouli directorial made Rs 782 crore in India out of which Rs 274 crore came from the dubbed Hindi version. It is the fourth biggest grosser in India.
5. Jawan (2023)
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer made Rs 646 crore in India including the biz from dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions. Jawan is the fifth biggest grosser at all-India box office.
6. Kalki 2898 AD (2024)
The Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Telugu fantasy film is the sixth biggest grosser in India. It made Rs 615 crore net at the domestic box office in its lifetime run.
7. Stree 2 (2024)
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the much-loved horror-comedy Stree 2 starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi broke several box office records and collected a massive Rs 579 crore net in India and Rs 842 crore at the worldwide box office.
Unlike most films in the list, Stree 2 was a single-language release and is currently the highest grossing film in Hindi language in India and seventh biggest Indian grosser domestically.
Stree 2 is a part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe that also features films like Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022), Munjya (2024) and the upcoming films like Thama (2025), Shakti Shalini (2025), Bhediya 2 (2026), Chamunda (2026), Stree 3 (2027), Maha Munjya (2027), Pehla Mahayudh (2028) and Doosra Mahayudh (2028).

A part of the Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, Pathaan directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role made Rs 543 crore at the domestic box office including business from Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions. It is the ninth biggest grosser in India.
The YRF’s Spy Universe also features films like Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), Tiger 3 (2023) and the upcoming films like War 2 (2025), Alpha (2025) and Pathaan 2 (2027).
10. Gadar 2 (2023)
Back in 2001, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha directed by Anil Sharma and starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Amrish Puri broke all records for Indian films in India and became the biggest grosser ever.
22 years later, its sequel, Gadar 2: The Katha Continues released and once again, the Sunny Deol starrer shattered almost all records.
Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 marked the return of Ameesha Patel as Sakina, Utkarsh Sharma as Jeete alongwith Sunny Deol as Tara Singh.
Gadar 2 became a massive blockbuster and even holds the record of being the biggest “Hindi” grosser just for a day.
The mass Hindi actioner made Rs 525 crore in India from a single-language before being taken over by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, the very next day.
Gadar 2 is currently the 10th biggest grosser in India. However, the film’s overseas box office was quite underwhelming. It made a total of Rs 691 crore at the worldwide box office.
