Diljit Dosanjh Explains His Phrase “Punjabi aa gaye oye” at His Concert

As a part of his highly anticipated Dil-Luminati tour, Diljit Dosanjh performed in Delhi. Day 2 of his concert saw a huge turnout as over 40,000 fans arrived at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

During the concert, Diljit opened up about the meaning of his signature line, “Punjabi aa gaye oye.” He told the crowd, “When I was born, my mother spoke Punjabi. The first word I learned was in Punjabi. Our nation has many languages, and I respect them all. Whether you speak Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, or Hindi – I respect all of you. But since my mother spoke Punjabi, I also speak Punjabi.”
