The Hema Committee report, a bombshell that exposed the rampant sexual harassment, exploitation, and pay disparities in the Malayalam film industry, has reignited discussions about the darker side of the industry. In the wake of this explosive revelation, two prominent actresses, Geetha Vijayan and Sridevika, have come forward and alleged director Thulasidas of sexual harassment.

According to an interview in Mathrubhumi, Geetha Vijayan, known for her performances in films like Chanchattam and Thalavattam, spoke about an alleged incident that occurred during the shooting of Chanchattam in 1991. She claimed that director Thulasidas repeatedly knocked on her hotel room door, making her feel uncomfortable and unsafe. When she confronted him about his behaviour, she faced retaliation in the form of allegedly being excluded from important discussions and threatened with removal from the film.
Sridevika made a similar claim that she said happened during the shooting of the 2006 film Avan Chandiyude Makan. She claimed that Thulasidas persistently knocked on her hotel room door late at night, making her feel harassed and violated. Despite reporting the incident to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), she claimed that no action was taken against the director.
In response to these allegations, Thulasidas has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He claimed that there were no negative experiences during the filming of either Chanchattam or Avan Chandiyude Makan.
The allegations against Thulasidas are not isolated incidents. The Hema Committee report has exposed a widespread pattern of sexual harassment and exploitation in the Malayalam film industry. The report’s findings have sparked outrage and call for urgent reforms to ensure a safer and more equitable working environment for all.
