Actress Jyotika reveals the lack of Hindi film offers in 27 years as the reason for her absence. She is currently gearing up for the release of her film, Srikanth with Rajkummar Rao, which is all set to hit the theatres on May 10.
Jyotika Reveals She ‘Didn’t Receive Any Offer For Hindi Films’ In 27 Years
Renowned actress Jyotika is currently gearing up for the release of the much-awaited biopic Srikanth alongside Rajkummar Rao and Alaya F. In March 2024, the actress made her comeback after 25 years with Shaitaan opposite Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan, which received lukewarm responses from the audience and critics alike. Despite the mixed reviews, fans were thrilled to witness her return to Hindi cinema. Recently, Jyotika unveiled the reasons behind her break from Bollywood.
Jyotika on making comeback in Bollywood
Addressing the same, she told News18, “I didn’t receive an offer for Hindi films even once. I drifted into South films 27 years ago and have only worked in South films ever since. My first Hindi film didn’t run well in theatres. It’s all very formula-based. Your first film needs to run for you to get more offers. When I started my career, there was an entire bandwagon of girls working with big production houses. Even my film was produced by a big banner but as fate would have it, it didn’t run. Luckily, I had signed a south film and diverted from Bollywood.”
Jyotika further added that she didn’t refrain from doing Bollywood films.
“I would also like to bring it to notice that even that film didn’t work at the box office. But I got a lot of films based on how my performance in it was received. That stark difference between both industries was definitely there. People in Bollywood also thought that I was a South Indian and they assumed that I didn’t want to do Hindi films anymore. It was a journey and I’m still grateful for it. I did some fabulous work there. It’s not like I refrained from doing a Hindi film. It’s just that I wasn’t offered any script in so many years,” she concluded.
Coming back to the film, in Srikanth, RajKummar essays the life of Srikanth Bolla. The film revolves around the inspiring journey of industrialist Srikanth Bholla, who did not let his visual impairment come in his way of establishing Bollant Industries.
Apart from Rajkummar Rao, the movie also stars Jyotika, Alaya F and Sharad Kelkar in the lead roles. Srikanth is all set to arrive in cinemas on May 10 (Friday).
Produced by T-Series and Chalk N Cheese Films Production LLP, the movie is directed by Tushar Hiranandani and written by Jagdeep Sidhu and Sumit Purohit.
