DYK Mohnish Bahl Acted In THESE Films As Lead Actor Before Becoming Bollywood’s Favourite Bhaiya
Mohnish Bahl is one of the most talented actors of Bollywood. His role in Hum Saath Saath Hain as the big brother cemented his place in history as the favourite Bade Bhaiya of all time. However, the actor who is celebrating his 63rd birthday today, has acted as lead actor in the beginning of his career and was not always a big brother or villain in the movies.
The first film Mohnish acted in was Bekarar (1983) where he started opposite Padmini Kolhapure alongside Sanjay Dutt and Supriya Pathak. The movie was a critical as well as commercial failure and Mohnish’s career could not take off from there, who played the second lead. The movie ended up earning less than a crore at the box office. Despite this road bock, Mohnish got another big banner film Teri Bahon Me the very next year as a lead actor. This film was a remake of the Hollywood film Blue Lagoon and it co started Mohnish Bahl alongside Ayesha. While this was his first film as a lead, it turned out to be Ayesha’s only movie as she got married to actor Jacky Shroff. Nonetheless, the film was a flop.
1984 was not that big of a disaster for Mohnish, who gave a hit as lead actor in Ramsay Brothers’ Purana Mandir. However, it is debatable if it did more harm or good to him as horror movies made by the Ramsay Brothers were not exactly known to be ‘prestigious’. So, his only hit as a lead actor came in a B-grade movie.
His last movie as a lead actor was Ye Kaisa Farz released in 1985, where he had the opportunity to work with his mother and legendary actress Nutan, but it was a forgettable venture for both. But the good thing about time is that it changes and so it did for Mohnish. He struck gold in the role of the villain in Salman Khan’s Maine Pyar Kiya. While he acted in negative roles in many more movies, his performance as the soft-spoken, sweet, gentle bade bhaiya in Hum Saath Saath Hain is etched in our memories.
