Babita Phogat, the former Indian wrestler whose life story inspired the plot of the Bollywood movie Dangal, has come out with an interesting revelation regarding the Bollywood film. After retiring from professional wrestling, Babita may have ventured into politics but has grabbed headlines for her recent comment in which she gave an insight into the financial details of the sports-based mov ie starring Aamir Khan.

While the film might have gone on to shatter several records and occupies the 20th place on the list of top rated Indian movies and with several reports suggesting that it made upwards of Rs 2000 crore worldwide, Babita Phogat has now said that she only received a sum of Rs 1 crore from the makers of the film.

“Out of Rs 2,000 crore made from Dangal, the Phogat family received only Rs 1 crore?”, Babita was posed a direct question during an interview on News24 to which responded with a firm: “Yes.”

When she was asked if the family was not happy with the sum given it was a very small percentage when compared to the kind of money that it made, she said that her family’s motive was to earn respect.

“Nahi, papa ne ek cheez kahi thi ki logo ka pyaar aur sammaan chahiye,” she said, loosely translating to “No, father had said one thing, we want people’s love and respect.”

Dangal Movie Released In 2016

The Box-office successful film had hit the theatres in 2016. It featured the story of Babita Phogat, Geeta Phogat and their father Mahavir Phogat with the story revolving around how Mahavir managed to overcome several obstacles in a patriarchal society on his way to turning his daughters into wrestlers who went on to earn several laurels for India.
