Ratan Tata, the legendary Indian industrialist and former chairman of the Tata Group, passed away on 9th October 2024. The 86-year-old was not only admired for her visionary leadership but also looked up for his humility and integrity. Despite his towering influence, he was a man who stayed true to his simple tastes and values. Do you know, Tata loved watching films, but not Bollywood. He was a fan of  Hollywood action-comedies.

Why Ratan Tata didn’t like watching Bollywood movies?

In an interview with Simi Garewal for her show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, he candidly shared that he isn’t a big fan of Bollywood and feel that Hindi films are too violent. The Business tycoon said, “If they come on TV, I am forced to watch them. Ever since I started watching Hindi movies, my Hindi has improved.”

Simi then asked him to name a Bollywood movie he had watched, but he couldn’t recall one. Humorously taking a dig at them, Tata said, “Hindi movies are violent. I think the amount of ketchup spread in Hindi movies is more than the ketchup spread in all restaurants in Bombay. I am very irritating to be around when I watch television, I become very impatient. I watch four to five channels at a time.”

Ratan Tata produced one film that got….

Back in 2004, Ratan Tata co-produced one Bollywood film called Aetbaar starring Amitabh Bachchan, John Abhraham and Bipasha Basu. Sadly, the film didn’t perfom well at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 9.5 crore, the film minted Rs 7.96 crore. Following it’s box office failure, Ratan Tata distanced himself from Bollywood and refrained from producing any more films in the industry.

In a 2020 interview with the BBC, Shantanu Naidu, Tata’s close friend, revealed that the industrialist liked Hollywood action-comedy films. Among his favourites were ‘The Other Guys’, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, and ‘The Lone Ranger’ starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in lead roles.
