On June 13, 2024, Italian President Sergio Mattarella hosted a spectacular seafront gala dinner for the world leaders in Borgo Egnazia, a luxurious location in southern Puglia. The event saw the participation of notable leaders including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, all gathered to discuss pressing global issues against the backdrop of Italian hospitality and culture.
Prime Minister Modi arrived at Brindisi Airport in Italy on June 14, 2024, to take part in the G7 Outreach Summit programme. His visit is set to include a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the summit, highlighting the strengthening ties between India and Italy.
Adding a touch of home to his visit, PM Modi and his team will be hosted by Ristorante Indiano Namaste (Namaste India restaurant) in Bari, an Indian restaurant renowned for its authentic Indian cuisine. This establishment specialises in dishes from the Punjab region, offering a delectable range of Indian flavors. From crispy Samosas served with Green Chutney to aromatic Biryanis and creamy Sarson Ka Saag, the restaurant has recreated a slice of India in Italy. Their menu also features a variety of Curries, Naans, Pulaos, and traditional Indian sweets like Coconut laddoos and milk-based desserts.
Given Prime Minister Modi’s preference for a vegetarian diet, the gesture of offering a taste of India in Italy highlights the exceptional hospitality of the Italian hosts. This culinary touch not only caters to the dietary preferences of the Indian delegation but also symbolizes the cultural exchange and mutual respect between the two nations.
The G7 Summit in Puglia is not just a platform for discussing global issues but also a celebration of cultural diversity and international cooperation. As Prime Minister Modi engages in high-level discussions and bilateral meetings, the warmth and hospitality extended by the Italian hosts are set to make this visit memorable. The summit exemplifies how diplomacy and culture can intertwine to create meaningful and lasting connections between nations.
As part of the summit, the world leaders will also be enjoying fine Italian dishes curated by Michelin-star Chef Massimo Bottura.
