Rakesh Roshan reflected on how advancement in technology has changed cinema today.

Veteran director Rakesh Roshan opened up about the changes in cinema today and said that the improvement in green screen and VFX technology has greatly helped filmmakers. However, he also opined that Bollywood today has gone overboard with special effects, deflecting focus from the story.
Rakesh Roshan told Pinkvilla, “We have 100 per cent improved in every way, the new cameras have been very helpful, new techniques, green screen, etc make things easy. We never used VFX or green screens in Karan Arjun, Khoon Bhari Maang, etc. The horses would fall for real, but that kind of filmmaking has its thrill.”
“Today, whatever you imagine you can also have that translated on screen. But today visualizations are overpowering the story more, it just goes overboard. One hero is shown fighting with 100 people, it looks a little artificial. Even though my stories were unbelievable, when I made them into films they looked believable,” he mentioned.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Rakesh Roshan is facing his own VFX conundrum. He is trying to develop Krrish 4 but is facing a budget crisis. In an interview with Gaana, Rakesh Roshan said that while the scale of the film is immense, he is finding it difficult to finance the film.
Rakesh Roshan said, “Kaafi saal se wait kar rahe hain lekin mera budgeting ho nahi raha hai. Picture ka scale bada hai. Scale chota karta hoon toh ek aam picture lagti hai. The world has become smaller. Aaj kal ke jo bacche hain, voh superheroes ki pictures itni dekh chuke hain ki unhe thoda sa bhi kuch fault nazar aayega toh criticise karenge.”
“We have to be very careful. Aur hum uss paimaane (Marvel, DC) ki picture bana nahi sakte hain. Itne paise hote nahi hain humare paas. Our budget doesn’t allow us… Hume kahani pe zyada concentrate karna padta hai. Halaki bade bade sequences honge picture main par agar 10 nahi honge toh 2 honge ya 3 honge,” he added. While Rakesh then assured that Krrish 4 is definitely on the cards, they are going to hold back for some time.
