The release of the highly anticipated film, Vettaiyan, has been marred by a title dispute that has sparked heated debates among fans and industry professionals alike. The film, starring Rajinikanth, is set to be released in both Telugu and Tamil, but the decision to retain the same title in both languages faced criticism. The controversy erupted when it was revealed that Jr NTR’s recent blockbuster, Devara: Part One, had also been released in both Telugu and Tamil under the same title. This led to concerns that the similarity in titles could confuse audiences and potentially impact the box-office performance of Vettaiyan.

However, the makers of Vettaiyan have defended their decision, arguing that the title is not merely a random choice but rather a significant element that captures the essence of the film. The production house, Lyca Productions, explained that extensive research and deliberation went into selecting the title, and they believe that Vettaiyan: The Hunter accurately conveys the film’s core theme and spirit.

The controversy has also highlighted the growing trend of dubbing films into multiple languages and the increasing popularity of pan-Indian cinema. With the rise of streaming platforms and the global reach of Indian films, it has become increasingly common for filmmakers to target a wider audience by releasing their films in multiple languages.

In response to the criticism, Rana and the film’s distributor, Suresh Productions, emphasized the importance of judging a film based on its content rather than its title. Suresh Babu said, “If Avatar is Avatar in all languages, and Titanic is Titanic in all languages, nobody questioned it. But if Vettaiyan is Vettaiyan, why are people objecting?”

Actor Rana Daggubati, who is associated with the film, also weighed in on the controversy. He emphasized the universal nature of cinema and the importance of appreciating films for their artistic value rather than their titles. Daggubati highlighted, “Cinema has no language, no boundaries. Depending on the story, a film can go anywhere.”

Despite the ongoing debate, the makers of Vettaiyan remain confident in the film’s potential to captivate audiences across languages. They believe that the film’s strong narrative, powerful performances, and stunning visuals will resonate with viewers and make it a box office success.

The film will be released in cinemas on October 11, 2024.
