Low Budget Film That Became All Time Blockbuster

‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is the debut film for Bhagyashree and Laxmikant Berde. While others rose o fame, the actress snail paced into movies and moved to television as well. Bhagyashree hails from Sangli, Maharashtra and reportedly belongs to a royal family.

Salman Khan made his debut in ‘Biwi Ho Toh Aisi’. But this film was his first as a lead actor helming the movie. Sooraj Barjatya is regarded for his family oriented films that showcase rawness of old school romance, family, relationships and more. He worked with Salman Khan and Laxmikant Berde in ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun?’, ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ etc.

Reportedly, it was made in a budget of about Rs 4crores and became a commercial success. According to report by Sacnilk, it earned six time higher the budget grossing over Rs 14 crores in India with a worldwide collection of Rs 27 crores.

The film’s story and soundtracks both were appreciated and loved by the audience. Both Salman and Bhagyashree won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actor and Best Debut Actress Award for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ respectively. Sooraj Barjatya also won the Best Debut Director Award.
