In terms of box office performance, the long weekend of Indian Independence Day did not bring much joy to the South Indian film industry. Last weekend, Bollywood, Tollywood, and Kollywood films vied for competition in the USA. Several films competed for the attention of Indian American audiences.

Typically, Telugu and Hindi films have significant success in the USA. However, during the last weekend, there was complete dominance by a single Bollywood film. 

The film “Stree 2,” featuring Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, emerged as a tremendous box office success. The horror-comedy amassed around Rs 190 crore on its initial weekend in India and also generated an impressive $1.9 million in North America. Considering the scale of this film, its opening is huge. While no other Indian movie managed to surpass the $200k mark last weekend, “Stree 2” achieved a huge income. 

In the United States, the Telugu films “Double iSmart” and “Mr. Bachchan” failed completely.
