Kenshi Yonezu’s ‘Iris Out’ Set the Vibe for the Reze Arc
Chainsaw Man and anime fans in general loved Season 1’s opening, ‘Kick Back.’ It became a viral hit and is among the Top 10 most-streamed anime openings of all time. We didn’t think Kenshi Yonezu could surpass that, but he did, returning with the opening theme for Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc, titled ‘Iris Out.’
Some fans might even argue that ‘Iris Out‘ fits the chaotic and fun vibe of Chainsaw Man better than ‘Kick Back‘ did. The raw vocals from Yonezu and the subtle “boom” of Reze tie it all together. It prepares you and hypes you up for the action, dark fantasy masterpiece you’re about to witness.

Overall, Kenshi Yonezu has consistently released and composed some of the best anime openings in history, not limited to Chainsaw Man. He also sang My Hero Academia’s Season 2 opening theme, ‘Peace Sign’, and more recently, ‘Spinning Globe’ for Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. It’s no surprise that ‘Iris Out’ is another hit in 2025.
Hikaru Utada Was the Perfect Choice to End Reze Arc’s Tragic Story

Kenshi Yonezu collaborated with Hikaru Utada for the ending theme, ‘Jane Doe’, and before the movie was even fully released, the snippet of the song convinced us we would be leaving the theatre in tears. Utada was the best choice to end such a beautifully tragic story.
‘Jane Doe’ has so many hidden meanings within it. It heavily implies that Reze never had a name, adding more layers to her character and how she related to Denji. The lyrics during the bridge, sung by both Utada and Yonezu, symbolize a tender exchange between the two doomed lovers.
The haunting melody of the piano stands out the most in the arrangement, serving as the perfect companion to Utada and Yonezu’s voices. There isn’t a dry eye in the theatre after seeing how Denji and Reze’s story wraps up with them never reuniting, and ‘Jane Doe’ makes sure the devastation stays. The soundtrack solidifies Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc as a masterpiece.
