First look at ‘The Housemaid’ movie trailer
Lionsgate has released the first trailer for its film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, ‘The Housemaid’.
The movie hits theatres in December. It stars ‘Euphoria’ actress Sydney Sweeney as a housemaid named Millie Calloway.
Amanda Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, while Brandon Sklenar plays her husband, Andrew Winchester.
McFadden, whose 2022 book sold over two million copies, says she is “so excited” to see the film.
“I was lucky enough to get to watch a sneak preview of ‘The Housemaid’ movie, and I absolutely LOVED it! The second it was over, I turned to my husband in the theatre and said, ‘Omg, I think it was better than the book!’ (And he said, ‘Yeah.’),” she wrote on Instagram.
Paul Feig directed the movie, while Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the screenplay.
McFadden says they captured everything that readers love about the novel.
“And the performances by all the actors were nothing short of incredible. It (almost) made me want to write another Housemaid book. (Almost!) The only problem is, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to wait until December to get to watch it again!”
Like the book, the film tells the story of a woman who gets a job as a live-in maid after struggling to find a job due to her prison record.
The wealthy Winchester family seem like a picture-perfect family, but all is not as it seems.
She has her secrets, but Nina and Andrew have even darker secrets lurking in their closet.
“Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away,” Erin Westerman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president, said in 2024, per Variety.
