Cameron Diaz has insisted she’s ‘over rom-coms’ as she teased a potential movie role during an appearance on Capital Radio on Tuesday.

The Hollywood actress, 52, who is renowned for her starring role in The Holiday alongside Jude Law, has made a stunning career comeback in an action comedy with Jamie Foxx following a 10-year acting hiatus.

While she is famed for her many roles in romantic comedies, Cameron said the days of rom-coms are over and now wants to focus on ‘mom-coms’.

The mother-of-two, who shares four-year-old daughter Raddix and son Cardinal, 10 months with her rocker husband Benji Madden, 45, now wants to focus on movies adapting to her current life and motherhood.

Radio host Sian Welby said: ‘I mean, look guys, you’re back with an absolute bang. This is action packed, you’ve got, you sort of got a flame thrower at one point, almost at the petrol station as we call it.

‘But Cameron have I heard, is this right, that now going forward no more rom-coms just mom-coms?’

Cameron said: I’ve left my rom-com era and I’m now in my mom-com era.’

The actress officially retired from Hollywood in 2018 and her last film was Annie in 2014.

However she has been lured back by her close friend Jamie to star alongside him in the pair’s latest action comedy.

Appearing on the The Graham Norton Show last week, Cameron gushed: ‘I am back all thanks to Jamie’ as she admitted she would have been a ‘fool’ not to enter back into the industry.

The star explained: ‘I had 10 years of not paying attention to anything; not accepting any advances, and then I got this script and thought that maybe it was time.

‘If I was going to leave my family for 10 hours a day I wanted to do it with the most talented man in the entertainment business.’

Expressing her gratitude to still work in the industry she added: ‘It is a privilege to make films, and we are all so lucky to do what we do. That the door was even open for me after a decade was amazing.

‘I loved those 10 years for me and my family, but I thought, “If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it chance, I am a fool.” It might be the beginning of something, but its here now and I am grateful for it.’

Cameron and Jamie are starring in Back In Action, which released on Netflix on January 17.

The film follows Emily (Cameron) and Matt (Jamie), two former CIA agents who have given up their life of espionage and action in order to settle down, start a family, and live a normal life.

However, things don’t go so smoothly for them as their identities become compromised and they are forced to fight and run in order to protect those closest to them.

The trailer kicks off with Emily and Matt driving towards a restaurant with their children, however, they make a quick pit stop at a petrol station. As Jamie exits his car, a group of strangers surround him and his wife Emily and begin to attack them out of nowhere.

While they’re able to defend themselves, their secret identities are revealed to their children and now they must figure out what threat there is to their family.
