Hollywood A-listers have been flocking to northern Greece to shoot a new Netflix movie directed by Greek-French filmmaker Romain Gavras.

Not much has been revealed about the movie called Sacrifice, but the cast includes Vincent Cassel, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, Salma Hayek and Sam Richardson.

According to Deadline, the logline for Sacrifice reads: A high-end charity gala is raided by a violent group of radicals on a mystical quest to fulfill a prophecy.

Netflix movie shot at marble quarries of Drama, northern Greece

Shooting which starts on Monday will mostly take place at the impressive marble quarries in the area of ​​Volakas, in the municipality of Kato Nevrokopi near the city of Drama.

The president of the Hoteliers’ association of Drama Angelos Kallias, confirmed that the crew for the production arrived in the northern Greek city days ago.

“More than 150 people are already in our area,” Kallias told the Athens-Macedonia News Agency (AMNA) and added: “for the needs of the film, about two hundred rooms in the wider area have been booked by the movie producers.”

A few months ago, the production held an audition in Drama, asking for young people who would like to be part of the film. Some, in fact, were selected and are expected to participate in the film.

For the needs of this large production, the filming of which will last until November 2, special platforms have been set up in one of the quarries of Volakas, while filming will also take place on the road leading to the ski resort of Falakros.

The city of Drama has entered the notebooks of international producers, further strengthening its cultural identity and increasing the interest of production companies to discover it and highlight the comparative its advantages, Kallias said.

He noted that this is the second time the area of ​​Drama has been chosen for the filming of an international production. The first was in 2022, when a film called “Tin Soldier” was shot, which has not been released yet.

The Greek-French film director Romain Gavras

Filmmaker Romain Gavras, son of Greek-French film director Costa-Gavras, is the director and co-writer for the movie. He was romantically linked with Dua Lipa, the famous British singer.

The movie, which is said to be something in the vein of a satire, will be Gavras’ first foray into English-language filmmaking.

Gavras became known for directing music videos for M.I.A. and Jay-Z before making his foray into filmmaking. His previous works drew attention at major film festivals around the world, including 2018’s The World is Yours, starring Vincent Cassel. This paved the way for a Hollywood debut complete with a major casting lineup in terms of the lead actors.
