Oh, snap. Josh Brolin has joined the all-star cast of the new Knives Out mystery movie.
Rian Johnson is furiously casting up Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which, like the other installments, is being headlined by Daniel Craig.
The Netflix feature is heading toward an early June production start in the U.K. and already has a sizeable list of suspects (and maybe a murder victim or two) in the form of Challengers’ Josh O’Connor, Civil War actress Cailee Spaeny, Ripley star Andrew Scott, Scandal alum Kerry Washington, screen and stage veteran Glenn Close, Hawkeye straight shooter Jeremy Renner, and Mila Kunis, who starred in thriller Luckiest Girl Alive for Netflix.
Plot details and character information are being kept in the body bag, but the thriller is expected to follow the same deliciously elliptical path as Johnson’s previous Knives Out mysteries. Eccentric, Southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) will uncover the details behind a murder while surrounded by a coterie of colorful characters.
Johnson wrote the script and is directing. He is also producing with his partner Ram Bergman via their T-Street banner.
Brolin has become a familiar face in the franchise world in recent years, perhaps being most well known for playing the finger-snapping Marvel villain Thanos in the last two — multibillion-dollar grossing — Avengers movies. He also starred in Deadpool 2 as Cable and appeared opposite Timothée Chalamet in the Dune movies. On a more earthly level, he starred in the two gritty Sicario crime thrillers.
Brolin can currently be seen starring in the second season of Prime Video’s sci-fi Western series Outer Range, on which he also serves as an executive producer and director. And the actor is presently in production on Weapons, filmmaker Zach Cregger’s follow-up to his acclaimed horror movie Barbarian. This November, the adds author to his résumé as Harper Collins releases his memoir, From Under the Truck.
He is repped by CAA and Johnson Shapiro.
