The MonsterVerse has brought some great projects for fans, delving into the story of iconic monsters such as Godzilla and King Kong. The franchise officially began after the successful run of the 2014 Godzilla movie, leading to a shared franchise.
However, many would be surprised to know the actual screentime of the Kaiju in the MonsterVerse, which is nothing in comparison with the gigantic box-office numbers.
Godzilla’s Screentime in MonsterVerse Movies!
As the new MonsterVerse movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is out in theatres, fans saw two titans reuniting again to tackle a formidable enemy. But, many would be disappointed with Godzilla’s screentime, especially when the Kaiju is going to face a powerful ape Titan, Skar King, and an ice dragon, Shimo.
X account, President Of Physical Media, shared an estimated screentime of Big G, stating that he only appeared for approximately 8 minutes in the new movie. This is downright disappointing as it’s the lowest screen time the Titan has ever received in the franchise.
As for his appearance in the other movies, the account shared that Big G’s involvement in the 2014 Godzilla movie was around 10 minutes and 11 minutes in both Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs Kong (2021).

Given that many had criticized the 2021 movie for forcing the Kaiju to take a back seat with Kong leading the show, many expected that the scenario might get better with its sequel. But, the results are probably the biggest con in Hollywood history when we compare it with the record-breaking box-office figures.
Godzilla Contributed a Lot in MonsterVerse Saga
Even though Big G’s screentime is something that would disappoint many fans, the little screentime of his gigantic showdown has managed to captivate audiences across the globe.
Fans on X have already shared their opinions on his less than impressive screentime, with one demanding the titan to find a new agent.

Being the franchise’s originator, Godzilla could have gotten a much-deserved screen presence, but a few noted that the Titan still managed to earn the best with his least screen time.
As per The Numbers, all the MonsterVerse movies have collectively grossed over $1.9 billion at the global box office. This figure would easily give one an idea of the contribution Big G has made to the franchise.
Since the Titan had no screen time in Kong: Skull Island (2017), the movie earnings can be omitted from the overall grossing, which in its case was over $561 million. From the figures, it is clear that the franchise’s top monster has contributed to Legendary Entertainment, making an overall total of over $1.4 billion.
As for its new movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has exceeded its original expectations per Variety, opening with $80 million at the domestic box office. The movie was projected to close between $50 million and $55 million.
Still, due to its monstrous opening, it became the second biggest debut for Legendary’s MonsterVerse following the 2014 film which grossed $93 million domestically.
