American actor Olivia Munn has revealed that she was asked to sign an NDA after a troubling incident on the set of a Hollywood movie, but refused.
Best-known for her roles in X-Men, The Newsroom, and The Daily Show with John Stewart, Munn worked as a news correspondent before moving into acting, where she quickly built a career in television with the series Beyond the Break. She’s appeared in several major Hollywood films, including Iron Man 2 and the Predator franchise, and in beloved television shows like New Girl.
In an interview with Monica Lewinsky on the Reclaiming podcast, Munn alluded to a “traumatic” incident on the set of an unnamed movie that turned into a seven-figure offer to sign an NDA.
“I had to file complaints with the studio,” the actor said. “And there’s a lot of other little things that go along with it, but it got to this place where I was offered a lot of money. Seven figures to accept.”
She assumed that the exorbitant sum was their version of an apology, but she wasn’t willing to take the money when an NDA was attached to it. “Not that I ever would talk about it truly because I wanted to move past it all,” she said. “But I said I’m not signing an NDA, and they said I have to.”
One of the reasons she was so reluctant to silence herself with the NDA was because the incident occurred at the height of the MeToo movement and she worried that she would be condemned for taking the money instead of standing her ground.
“I remember feeling so proud when I walked out”, she continued, saying that her temper had ultimately led to the decision. “I did not think about negotiating,” she said. “I did not think about anything besides how disrespectful that was.”
