The ever-busy Tyler Perry has rounded out the cast for his next Netflix movie, Straw.
Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar and Mike Merrill have boarded the film about a devoted single mother facing unfortunate events that send her down an unexpected path.
Struggling against circumstances beyond her control, she becomes entangled in a situation she never imagined. Fueled by desperation, she finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence, according a synopsis from the producers.
Perry will write and direct Straw, the latest film out of his multi-year, first look deal with Netflix and set to shoot in Atlanta. Earlier Perry movies with Netflix include Mea Culpa, starring Kelly Rowland, A Jazzman’s Blues, A Madea Homecoming, the 12th installment of the Madea franchise and the thriller A Fall from Grace.
The producer credits on Straw are shared by Perry, Angi Bones and Tony Strickland. Perry and Netflix are also in business together for TV series and faith-based films.
His upcoming projects with Netflix include the Second World War period drama, The Six Triple Eight, about the only all-Black, all-female battalion stationed overseas in the war effort. Kerry Washington will lead an ensemble cast that also includes Oprah Winfrey. Perry is also at work on the recently announced drama series Beauty in Black, a 16-episode hour-long series he wrote and will direct and produce.
Taylor is repped by WME, Taylormade Management Group and The Lede Company. Glynn Turman is repped by Innovative Artists and The Rosenzweig Group.
