After actors like Ali Fazal and Ishaan Khatter have made waves in Hollywood, Vijay Varma has also expressed his ambitions to act in the West. Vijay Varma, who was recently seen in IC814: The Kandahar Hijack, feels like this is the right time to make a shift in Hollywood in the age of ‘colour-blind casting’.

Speaking to Variety, Vijay Varma said, “It’s a very good time to make that jump.” He revealed that he is in talks about getting representation in Hollywood. He noted how “colour-blind casting” has aided actors like Ali Fazal and Ishaan Khatter to get good work in the West which is not just for South Asians.

“With more acceptance that is coming in by the international producers, directors looking at Indian diaspora actors, brown actors in a variety of roles, it’s a very lucrative time,” Varma said. The actor revealed that he will explore opportunities early next year.

Vijay Varma also recalled how playing a pilot in his latest project fueled his love for aviation. “I enjoyed the love that I had as a young boy for aviation, and just to be in the flight simulation centre, getting my hands on the simulator to understand various mechanics, and try to carry in most of it to the set, knowing that in front of me is all going to be green screen, it took a certain kind of very concentrated imagination,” he said.

The actor also received a warm response from aviation enthusiasts for his role in IC814: The Kandahar Hijack. “There’s a massive community that watches a lot of aviation stuff across the globe. So I’ve heard a lot from that community as well across the globe, aviation sector, aviation enthusiasts,” Varma added.

“I think I’m doing something that resonates with people who are kind of bored of the beaten-down path,” he reflected, adding that he often receives feedback from people who don’t typically watch Bollywood films but still appreciate his work.

Meanwhile, Varma is currently filming Matka King, a Prime Video original series set in the 1960s and 70s. It is directed by Nagraj Manjule.
