The Wharf is offering outdoor movie screenings every Thursday through the end of September, a perfect setting for a socially distant cinema experience during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Wharf’s “Sunset Cinema” operates on the Transit Pier big screen that floats on a stage in the water. Food and beer providers Cantina Bambina and Pacifico are located next to the tables.

To participate in the screenings at The Wharf, you must reserve a private cabana at Cantina Bambina in advance.

Cabana reservations are $10. A serving of popcorn and a Pacifico Beer are included. Guests can also buy drinks, Grazie Grazie sandwiches, Union Pie and Lupo Marino pizza before the movie.

The cabanas have a $20 minimum per person, which includes the $10 reservation fee.

Movies start at 8 pm but seating becomes available from 7:30 pm. You should also keep in mind that all participants must be over 21.

The movie schedule is as follows:

  • August 13: Jaws
  • August 20: 42, The Jackie Robinson Story
  • August 27: Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • September 10: Dirty Dancing
  • September 17: Hidden Figures
  • September 24: Jumanji: The Next Level

Outdoor movie showings have become popular across the nation during the pandemic. In July, the District of Columbia granted permission to Events DC and Union Market to open drive-in movie theaters, following social distancing measures.
