Jason Statham fans have been treated to a slew of good news lately, with several of his upcoming movies landing 2026 release dates, but one of his more recent classics has just suffered an unexpected setback. At the beginning of 2024, Statham teamed up with director David Ayer for The Beekeeper, an action thriller that immediately became a fan-favorite. After earning scores of 71% from critics and 92% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $160 million against a $40 million budget, The Beekeeper began streaming on Prime Video, the platform it’s called home for over a year.

However, in a shocking and unexplainable move, The Beekeeper has been suddenly removed from the Prime Video streaming library. It’s now only available to rent or purchase on the platform, and it isn’t even streaming on Prime Video’s sister service, Amazon MGM+. What makes this move even more surprising is that Amazon is deep in production on a sequel to The Beekeeper, which is expected to premiere sometime next year. It’s unclear at this time if this departure is a temporary removal to create demand for the movie or if Amazon is shopping The Beekeeper’s streaming license to other platforms.

There have been some creative changes between The Beekeeper and The Beekeeper 2. After directing the first movie, David Ayer has stepped down as director for the sequel. The job now belongs to Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto. While Jeremy Irons is returning for The Beekeeper 2, other stars like Josh Hutcherson are not. However, Marvel and Mission: Impossible veteran Pom Klemtieff has joined the action in The Beekeeper 2, along with wrestler Adam Copeland, or Edge. Details about their roles are being kept under wraps.

When Does Jason Statham’s New Movie Come Out?

Jason Statham’s next movie is coming much sooner than you think. Statham has been tapped to star in Shelter, which will be released in theaters on January 30, 2026. He’s also been set to lead Mutiny, which was just recently dates for August 21 after being delayed out of its January slot. Both action films come from directors Ric Roman Waugh and Jean François-Richet, who have worked with Gerard Butler on Greenland and Plane. Just yesterday it was announced that Statham will reunite with Guy Ritchie for a sequel to Layer Cake, the 2004 Daniel Craig gangster movie.
