Jason Statham’s Best Action Movie Is Also His Craziest (And Now You Can Stream it for Free)
Ever since transitioning to action movies starting in the early 2000s, Jason Statham has established himself as one of the most recognizable action stars in Hollywood today. From memorable roles in high-octane films like The Expendables, The Fate of the Furious, Safe, The Meg, and most recently David Ayer’s 2025 action film A Working Man, the actor has showcased his ability to lead blockbuster hits. Statham logged his craziest action movie to date in 2006 when he starred in Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s directorial debut, an action-packed movie that Statham’s fans can’t miss now that it’s returned to streaming.
The movie in question is Crank, and it started streaming on Fox’s free streaming service Tubi on September 1st alongside its 2009 sequel, Crank 2: High Voltage. Statham stars in the 2006 movie and its sequel as hitman Chev Chelios, who wakes to learn that his rival has injected him with a poison that will kill him if his heart rate drops. In order to stay alive long enough to kill the men responsible, Chev must keep his adrenaline flowing constantly. Amy Smart, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Efren Ramirez, and Dwight Yoakam also star.
Why You Should Watch Crank
Nearly two decades after its release, Crank remains a standout in Statham’s impressively long action movie career. Centering itself on a completely outlandish plot that strays from conventional action thrillers, the movie features a highly energetic and humorous performance from Statham as Chev, who participates in a number of bizarre and dangerous acts to stay alive, including using a defibrillator on himself. Crank is a wild ride from beginning to end, and while it can be off-putting to some, its fast-paced and eccentric nature, driven by Chev’s need to keep the adrenaline flowing, and the blend of over-the-top action with dark humor is wildly entertaining.
Crank earned a respectable box office haul of $42 million worldwide against a $12 million production budget. The film is also rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 62% critics score and 71% audience score. Those numbers were enough to earn Crank a sequel, Crank 2: High Voltage. The film brought back Statham as Chev, whose nearly indestructible heart has been replaced with a battery-operated device that requires regular jolts of electricity. That movie performed slightly better with critics and holds a 64% critics’ score. It is now also streaming on Tubi.
Other Action Movies Now On Tubi
Tubi is the go-to place for movie lovers looking for non-stop action this September. The streamer’s September 2025 content lineup brought several great action movies on September 1st. Movies like Need For Speed, The Flash, Universal Soldier: The Return, and XXX: State of the Union are now streaming on Tubi. The Fox free streaming service also added World War Z on September 1st amid news that a sequel is finally in the works.
