Comedy drama starring Viveik Kalra and Kulvinder Ghir. Luton, 1987: outcast Javed, the son of Pakistani immigrants, is introduced to the music of Bruce Springsteen. Through his love of music, Javed grows in confidence and finds the inspiration to pursue an interest in writing, ask out his crush and stand up to racism in his community. A Matter of Life and Death – 1pm, BBC Two
Classic romantic fantasy starring David Niven and Kim Hunter. With his plane ablaze, Squadron Leader Peter Carter holds a last radio conversation with an American servicewoman before baling out. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad – 4:50pm, Film4
Fantasy adventure starring Kerwin Mathews. Blown off course to the monster-infested island of Colossa, Sinbad and his crew rescue a sorcerer from the clutches of a cyclops. The voyage continues to Baghdad, but the sorcerer has been forced to leave stolen property behind, and hatches a wicked plan to force Sinbad to return to Colossa. Read our full review
Star Trek – 6:45pm, Film4
Science-fiction adventure starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Rebellious youth James Kirk is persuaded to join the Starfleet Academy, where he befriends Dr Leonard “Bones” McCoy and clashes with officer Spock. The Lost City – 9pm, Channel 4
Action comedy adventure starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe. Bestselling author Loretta Sage is promoting the latest in her series of Dash McMahon adventure novels with handsome cover model Alan Caprisan when she is kidnapped by a billionaire who believes she knows the location of a lost treasure. Drama based on a true story, starring Tom Hanks. A tense stand-off ensues between Captain Richard Phillips and Muse, the leader of Somali pirates who hijack his container ship. But both men are also subjected to outside political forces. Read our full review
Sunday 7th April
Guys and Dolls – 2pm, BBC Two
Musical comedy based on Damon Runyon’s short stories, starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra. Hustler Nathan Detroit searches for a new location for his dice game while being pursued by the police. When he finds a suitable garage, he makes a $1,000 bet with slick gambler Sky Masterson to raise the necessary finance. However, that means Sky must persuade a pious young missionary to go to Havana to have dinner, or else he loses the wager. Read our full review
The Mitchells vs The Machines – 3pm, ITV2
Animated sci-fi comedy featuring the voices of Abbi Jacobson and Danny McBride. Katie Mitchell is ready to leave for college, but then her fretting father has the bright idea to drive her there himself, and packs the whole family into the car for a cross-country road trip. This enforced bonding experience is somewhat hampered by a robot uprising, as a scheming AI plots to launch every human being into space. Can the family – and the population of Earth – survive? Nowhere Boy – 11:20pm, Film4
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as a 15-year-old John Lennon in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s biographical drama. The young Lennon, who lives with his aunt and uncle, is prompted to visit his real mother after his uncle dies from a heart attack. Epic war drama starring Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall. Action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone and Billy Dee Williams. When an evil international terrorist arrives in New York, Deke DaSilva and Matthew Fox – tough city cops newly assigned to the Anti Terrorist Action Command – are put on the case. Thriller starring Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac. In 1962, the charismatic Chester and his young, attractive wife, Colette, arrive in Athens and befriend Rydal, a young tour guide. Historical epic starring Rod Steiger, Christopher Plummer and Orson Welles. France, 1814: with defeat looming, Napoleon Bonaparte bows to pressure and steps down as Emperor of France. Drama based on a true story starring Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Kevin Costner. Following a career-ending injury, skier Molly Bloom makes ends meet as a waitress. Comedy starring Whoopi Goldberg. After seeing her gangster boyfriend Vince LaRocca murder an informant, cabaret singer Deloris Van Cartier becomes a marked woman. Action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk. Satirical drama starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Meeting by chance, soap salesman Tyler Durden and a frustrated office worker conceive the Fight Club, where disaffected young men seeking release from their frustrations can beat each other up with bare knuckles. Drama based on William Shakespeare’s play starring James Mason, Marlon Brando and John Gielgud. It’s 44 BC and Caesar, having returned to Rome after defeating Pompey in the Civil War, has been elected Dictator for life by his countrymen. Montana, 1925: ranch owner George Burbank meets and falls in love with widowed restaurant proprietor Rose Gordon.
