It Ends With Us, the new film starring Blake Lively, has seen its release date pushed back once more.

The upcoming film, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, follows Lily Bloom (Lively) and Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni), whose relationship is confused by Lily’s feelings for her past love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar).

The project has undergone a hectic production cycle, with the Writers Guild of America strikes causing a delay last year, with its original proposed late-2023 release date being pushed back into 2024.

After another delay, which saw the film moved from February to June, Deadline has now confirmed that the release has been pushed back once more, this time to August 9, with production company Sony believing it’s more beneficial to their scheduling.

The logline for the film, which is being directed by Baldoni, reads: “Lily Bloom is a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business.

“A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship.

“When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan, suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realises she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.”

Lively had previously teased elements of the project during filming, with the star undergoing a transformation of sorts as she sported a new hair colour, trading her blonde locks for a wavy, copper style.

In addition to It Ends With Us, Lively’s other upcoming projects include John Krasinski’s IF and the currently untitled sequel to A Simple Favor.

It Ends With Us is scheduled for release on August 9.
