The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim has unveiled a first look at Brian Cox’s character Helm Hammerhand, an ancient king of Rohan.
Directed by Ghost in the Shell’s Kenji Kamiyama, the new animated film is set nearly 200 years before The Two Towers and tells the tale of the legendary king, a character introduced in the appendix of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
In a newly-released image shared by People, Cox’s Helm can be seen sitting alongside members of his family, including his daughter Héra (Gaia Wise), Haleth and Hama.

“There’s some pretty powerful moments in this film, but just the way in which Brian could just so effortlessly reach for them was wonderful,” producer Philippa Boyens said to the publication of Cox’s performance.
More images shared by Entertainment Weekly show Héra wielding a sword, as well as a first look at ruthless Dunlending lord Wulf (Luke Pasqualino).
The War of Rohirrim will follow Helm and his people – led by Héra – as they make a brave last stand in the fortress of Hornburg after Wulf launches a surprise attack to avenge the death of his father (Shaun Dooley).
