Jessica Alba’s New Netflix Action Thriller Can’t Break Actor’s Dismal Rotten Tomatoes Streak

June 22, 20243 Mins Read

Summary

  • Jessica Alba’s
    Trigger Warning
has received a low Tomatometer score, continuing her streak of critical failures.
  • The Netflix thriller stars Alba as a Special Forces operator in a bar takeover amidst gang warfare.
  • Despite
    Trigger Warning
boasting a quality cast, it fails to break Alba’s decade-long Rotten streak.

Trigger Warning isn’t enough to save Jessica Alba from an increasingly damning Rotten Tomatoes streak. The latest Netflix thriller stars Alba as a Special Forces operator struggling against brutal gang warfare after taking over her late father’s bar. Released on June 21, Trigger Warning‘s extensive cast is filled with respectable actors, including Alba, Anthony Michael Hall, Mark Webber, and Jake Weary. Unfortunately, it does not appear to have thrilled critics.

While Alba undoubtedly hoped for positive results, her latest movie is another critical disaster. It is Alba’s eighth movie in a row that failed to earn a positive Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. With a 25% Tomatometer score and a 20% audience score, it has earned a definitive Rotten designation and is unlikely to recover. It also fails to break Alba’s decade-long Rotten streak, as she has not had a positive rating since 2014’s Stretch.

Jessica Alba’s Rotten Tomatoes Streak Is Horrible

Critics And Audiences Agree About Alba’s Recent Movies Failing To Satisfy

Jessica Alba’s Rotten Tomatoes streak is a rare negative mark that critics and audiences can agree on. While many streaks often feature occasional positive audience scores and dismal Tomatometer scores, Jessica Alba’s career trajectory is generally frowned upon. She has not had a score above 45% in either category since 2014’s Stretch. Her lowest scores both came in 2019, with Killers Anonymous‘ 0% Tomatometer score and 16% audience score, whereas the highest during that streak was El Camino Christmas‘ 40% Tomatometer score and Dear Eleanor‘s 44% audience score. Alba’s streak does not tell the entire story, however. Jessica Alba spoke about Trigger Warning‘s revolutionary narrative, but it failed to recontextualize her work. While Stretch provided a rare bright spot in a poor period of Alba’s career, there was another negative streak that Stretch snapped. Since 2005’s Sin City, Alba has had only two movies with a positive Tomatometer or audience score. 2010’s Machete had a 70% score among critics and 63% among audiences. Machete snapped an 11-movie negative streak, before Stretch had to break a seven-movie streak.

Corruption is the core of this story, yet there is not much done with it beyond saying these people are immoral, and Alba’s Parker will mess them up.

Jessica Alba leans down with a knife in Trigger Warning still

Stretch, Sin City, and Machete remain Alba’s only positively-reviewed movies among critics. Audiences generally liked a few more, as Honey, Never Been Kissed, and The Sleeping Dictionary each have above 65% scores. Alba has appeared in 35 movies, however, making even those six positive ratings a rare occurrence in an increasingly negative filmography. While Alba earned renown for her role in Fantastic Four, her lack of involvement in the Fantastic Four reboot may be a positive note for the Marvel franchise, given that unfortunate streak. Trigger Warning just couldn’t stop Jessica Alba’s ongoing decline.
