Netflix is heating up August with a pair of its most beloved series. Emily in Paris, which everyone feels compelled to watch rather than wants to watch, it seems, kicked off Part 1 of its fourth season in the middle of the month, with lots of drama in store after the revelations from the Season 3 finale. Will Emily finally find love so that she can just lounge around in a pair of sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt? If only things were that easy. Plus, the superhero drama The Umbrella Academy returned for its final season, bringing to a close four seasons of dysfunctional family drama and seriously psycho superpowers.
Is the Netflix bump real? AMC hopes so. The network has arranged for several of its shows — including Fear the Walking Dead, Interview with the Vampire, and Dark Winds — to join Netflix’s library, and it’s a treasure trove of quality television that you may have missed over the last several years.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 (Aug. 8)
Everything has changed for the Brellies, and that’s not an exaggeration. At the end of The Umbrella Academy Season 3, the Hargreeves siblings lost their superpowers. It happened after their father, Reginald (Colm Feore), tried to reprogram the universe by extracting their bodily particles but was stopped by Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) — whom he had struck a secret deal with. We’re expecting the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy to answer our burning questions, the biggest among them being: Will the Brellies get their powers back? –Kat Moon [Trailer] [Everything we know about The Umbrella Academy Season 4] [More shows like The Umbrella Academy]
Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 1 (Aug. 15)
The only summer games Emily (Lily Collins) is in Paris for are loooooooooove games. Netflix’s stylish stalwart returns for a two-part fourth season (Part 2 will be released on Sept. 12), with Emily’s heart eyes set on Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) now that they’re both single following the Season 3 finale’s bombshells — among those being that Camille (Camille Razat) is pregnant and Gabriel is the father. Like, totally sacre bleu! Also: Rumor has it that Emily will be in Rome for at least part of this season. [Trailer] [Everything we know about Emily in Paris Season 4] [More shows like Emily in Paris]
The Union (Aug. 16)
I don’t quite understand the appeal of Mark Wahlberg as a movie star, but the rest of America does, so I feel obligated to let you know that Mark Wahlberg is starring in an algorithmically generated Netflix film. The Union is an action romantic comedy starring Wahlberg as an everyman who gets recruited into the world of espionage by his high school sweetheart (Halle Berry), and yeah, that checks all the boxes. Great job, AI! I just hope J.K. Simmons, who plays Berry’s boss, got paid well for this one. [Trailer]
Interview with the Vampire, The Terror, Dark Winds, Gangs of London, Monsieur Spade (Aug. 19)
Even though there is such a thing as AMC+ — which nobody subscribes to — children of the streaming era might not be too familiar with AMC’s wares, which is a damn shame because the network that once dominated cable during the Peak TV era is still putting out quality stuff. Well, get to know some of the networks’ recent shows, because Netflix is showcasing select AMC series that were previously only streaming on AMC+. Among the highlights are the excellent adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, the incredible first season of the historical horror anthology The Terror (one of my personal favorite seasons of television ever), and Clive Owen’s detective series Monsieur Spade. Other AMC series coming to Netflix include Dark Winds, Gangs of London, Fear the Walking Dead, Into the Badlands, and Preacher. Slightly related: Also heading to Netflix the same day is Hulu’s enticing drama about reality TV, UnREAL. [The Terror Trailer]
KAOS (Aug. 29)
Jeff Goldblum as Zeus? Can I just stop there? I might need to, because the description on this dark comedy about Greek mythology is rather vague. As Zeus fears the end of his reign and an apocalypse on Earth, three humans discover they are part of a prophecy that can hopefully stop it all. Come for Goldblum, stay for David Thewlis as Hades. KAOS was created by The End of the F***ing World‘s Charlie Covell, so expect things to be delightfully messed up. [Teaser]
