Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 is heading into its second weekend of box office infamy against Paramount Pictures’ goliath Smile 2 and still looks to break even more records, possibly becoming the highest-grossing unrated movie of all time.
Outside of the viral nature of Terrifier 3, part of the film’s success is that the ultra slasher is connecting with both audiences and critics, as proven by the Rotten Tomatoes scores.
Entertainment journalist Erik Davis pointed out something extraordinary this week – Terrifier 3 is the first new horror movie to go both “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot” since the Verified Hot designation was launched back in August on Rotten Tomatoes.
As Slashfilm notes, this is significant because scoring a “Verified Hot” badge isn’t exactly easy: “The ‘Verified Hot’ badge is awarded to films that gain a Verified Audience Score of 90% or higher and have a minimum of 500+ Verified Ratings.”
While the rating currently sits at 88% on the Popcornmeter (and 73% fresh on the Tomatometer), the site notes that RT explains, “If a film earns Verified Hot status, but its Popcornmeter subsequently drops below 80%, it will lose the Verified Hot designation.”
Terrifier 3 is in theaters now and looks to continue its historic run through the Halloween season. Grab your tickets now!
