The highly anticipated film is set to be released in May 2027
Bo Bragason has been cast as Princess Zelda in the latest live action Legend of Zelda remake, but who exactly is the young star ?Excitement continues to build for The Legend of Zelda fans as they patiently wait for the live action film to be released.
Nintendo previously announced it would collaborate with Sony Pictures on a live action rendition of the series. Announced back in 2023, the motion picture was slated to premiere in early 2027, and will be directed by Wes Ball, well known for his work on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
And fans cannot wait.
Now, there has been a huge update as two young British actors have been cast in leading roles. Bo Bragason, 21, will play Princess Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, 16, will play the role of Link.
The film also has an official release date of May 7, 2027. Announcing the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto said: “This is Miyamoto.
“I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.
“The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience. (2/2)”
As a result, fans have had their say as one person wrote: “Beyond excited!! I’ve been waiting for this movie since I was a kid.
“I think this will be our lord of the rings.” Another added: “Good casting so far.
“The boy just needs to dye his hair to play Link.”
Who is Bo Bragason and where have you seen her before?
Bo is British actress born in West Sussex in Chinchester in 2001. According to reports, Bo spent some of her childhood living abroad before the family returned to the UK in Cheshire, where her acting career kicked off.
On Instagram, the star has over 17,000 followers and often shares selfies of herself or stills and clips from her latest projects. With just 44 posts, she is yet to share the news of the casting on her own Instagram as of yet, but fans are already commenting on her posts that she is the “perfect choice”.
According to IMDB, Bo is 5′ 7½″ tall and can speak French after spending time in France as a child. Fans may recognise Bo Bragason from her roles on TV.
Bo started her career as a child actor with her first role being in miniseries Three Girls where she was just 13 years old, playing Rachel Winshaw. She has also been seen in BBC drama the Jetty.
Moreover, horror fans may additionally recognise her from her appearances in films like Censor as well as The Radleys. But it was in 2024 that the star landed a major role, being cast as Roxy Trotter in Prime Video’s Renegade Nell in 2024 where she appeared in all episodes.
Now, the 21-year-old will take leading role as Princess Zelda, arguably her highest profile role yet. Fans will also recognise Benjamin Evan Ainsworth from his role as Mile in Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor as well as being the voice of Pinocchio in Disney’s live action remake.
The Legend of Zelda’ series debuted in 1986, thanks to Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. It has been captivating gamers ever since with adventures through the mythical land of Hyrule, where Princess Zelda helps to battle for the salvation of her realm alongside Link.
This will be the first attempt to make a Zelda film, however there was an animated TV series in 1989. While details remain under wraps regarding which game narrative will inspire the film, anticipation is undeniably high amongst fans.
The Legend of Zelda film will be released on May 7, 2027.
