‘Masterpiece’ Quentin Tarantino film with two huge stars on Film 4 tonight
A multi-award winning comedy drama from the brilliant mind of director Quentin Tarantino has a stellar cast of Hollywood greats including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie
It is the hugely successful director Quentin Tarantino’s favourite out of all the movies he’s made and if you haven’t yet seen it, now’s your chance because Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood is airing tonight on Film 4.
Starring acting giants Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, the long list of talented cast members also sees appearances from Al Pacino, Kurt Russell and Damian Lewis. The film marks the last Luke Perry was to make before he died.
Released in UK and US cinemas in the summer of 2019 it’s estimated to have made around £287 million at the box office. The multiple award winning flick has been described as “a masterpiece” and “perfect” by fans who regularly give it five stars.
Written and directed by Tarantino, it was his first movie to be made without the involvement of the Weinstein brothers following the sexual abuse allegations against Harvey. It is set in Los Angeles in the late 60s and follows fading Western actor Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) and his best friend and stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt) as they try to secure work in a film industry that is leaving them behind.
Booth lives in a trailer next door to director Roman Polanski and his young actress wife Sharon Tate (Robbie), who in real life was brutally slaughtered at home along with four of her friends at the hands of Charles Manson’s family members.
Rick manages to land a role in a spaghetti Western after being booked by Martin Schwarz (Pacino). He and Booth head to Italy for the shoot where they stay for six months after securing more work. On their return to LA they encounter the Manson family as they are arriving to carry out the murders.
Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood was named as one of the top 10 films of 2019. It was nominated for numerous accolades and among many others won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture as well as two Oscars – Best Supporting Actor for Pitt and Best Production Design.
It has a score of 86% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with fans praising the humour, drama and soundtrack. “I love Tarantino movies, and this is a love letter to Hollywood,” raved one. “Everything is perfect – soundtrack, cast, the retro look of the late 60’s and especially the cinematography.
