Disney’s most popular songs according to Spotify may surprise you

Disney songs have a way of sticking in your head.

And chances are if your have young ones in your house, these songs are played over and over and over again. Although what are considered the most popular Disney songs may surprise you.

To compile the list, theater tickets company SeatPlan examined the top 1,000 playlists featuring the word “Disney” in their title on Spotify. The method determined the Disney songs that appeared the most frequently.

“Disney’s ability to consistently make incredibly successful songs is fascinating,” said Ben Jackson, CEO if SeatPlan. “Clearly, audiences love returning to the lyrical magic of Disney tracks.”

What are the most popular Disney song according to Spotify?

No. 1: “You’re Welcome”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson” crooning “You’re Welcome” from “Moana” claimed the top spot. The song, performed by the character Maui, was in 293 playlists. It has been steamed more than 538 million times, earning Disney approximately $2.1 million in royalty profits, according to the study. It also has more than $1.6 billion YouTube views. “You’re Welcome” was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda who composed the track after researching the history of the demigod Maui.

No. 2: “How Far I’ll Go” and “Let it Go”

Another “Moana” song, “How Far I’ll Go,” claimed the second spot, but it tied with the “Frozen” smash hit “Let it Go.” Both were in 288 playlists with a combined total of more than 1.3 billion global streams. “How Far I’ll Go,” sung by Auli’i Cravalho, earned Disney approximately $2.3 million in royalties. A pop version of the song played during the film’s credits by Alessia Cara, earned another $5.2 million. Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go,” is reported to be Disney’s most streamed song globally, resulting in more than $2.9 million.

No. 3: “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” 

The “Lion King” hit was featured on 276 playlists and streamed 290 million times. It earned about $1.1 million in royalties. Elton John and Tim Rice were the masterminds behind this movie’s hugely successful soundtrack. This year the movie is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

No. 4: “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” 

Multi-talented showman Donny Osmond, is the voice behind “I’ll Make a Man out of You” from the “Mulan” soundtrack. The song was featured on 270 playlists and seamed more than 319 million times on Spotify. It earned Disney an estimated $1.2 million.  

No. 5: Love Is an Open Door

Another “Frozen” song claimed the fifth spot, “Love is an Open Door” sung by Kristen Bell as Anna and the character Hans. “Love is an Open Door” appeared in 263 playlists and was streamed more than 362 times on Spotify. That amounted into about $1.4 million in royalties for Disney.  

  • No. 6: “Hakuna Matata,” “Lion King” – 261 playlists.
  • No. 7: “Into the Unknown,” “Frozen 2” – 260 playlists  
  • No. 8: “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” “Frozen” – 246 playlists
  • No. 9: “When Will My Life Begin?,” “Tangled” and “For the First Time in Forever,” “Frozen” – 239 playlists 
  • No. 10: “Under the Sea”, “The Little Mermaid” – 234 playlists
