This musical is the one that we want… The Pink Ladies and T Birds are back on our screens and we aren’t complaining.

Sandy and Danny are back as Grease will drop on Netflix next month.

Full of songs that still get everyone up and dancing, or get murdered at karaoke, the 1978 classic will be back and ready to stream on February 19.

We can all come to terms with the fact that Grease would not be made in this day and age, with the girls smoking in tight leather leggings to win over the misogynistic boys, but if this musical did anything to pop culture it did provide the soundtrack to every good party ever.

Although it is sad to see Olivia Newton-John shine as Sandy after her death in 2022, it is beautiful to see her back where her career really took off.

Grease lightning will forever remain iconic, showing John Travolta in his prime as Danny Zuko – leader of the T-Birds.

The classic musical movie’s drop on Netflix got us reminiscing our favourite sing-along cinematic masterpieces.

So without further ado, here is a list of seven movie-musicals also available for streaming!

Hairspray (2007)

If one dose of Travolta wasn’t enough, how about two!

Except this time, the screen icon has traded his leather jacket for a well-kept bouffant, as he plays the role of Edna Turnblad, mother of protagonist Tracey (Nikki Blonksy).

The 2007 classic, based on the 2002 musical of the same name, follows Tracey’s journey to stardom as she gets a shot at appearing on a hot television show.

After dipping his toes in singing with High School Musical, Zac Efron went on to star in the movie as the charming heartthrob Link Larkin.

Efron almost didn’t get the role because director Adam Shankman thought he ‘smiled too much’.

The Greatest Showman

Speaking of Mr Efron, The Greatest Showman is a must-watch musical movie jam-packed with larger than life productions, award winning songs and a star studded cast.

Hugh Jackman stars as P.T Barnum in this criminally-underrated biopic.

The musical follows the extraordinary life of P.T Barnum as he grows from rags to riches after creating a circus full of ‘freaks’ and performers.

The 2017 hit, beams with musical greatness, with Keala Settle becoming a household name with her track This Is Me.

This Is Me went on to win best original song at the 2018 Golden Globes.

The award-winning musical also features the likes of Hollywood legends, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Michelle Williams.

The Greatest Showman is available on Disney+ now.

West Side Story

The Romeo and Juliet style tale with an almost perfect Rotten Tomatoes score is a must-see for all musical lovers.

Steven Spielberg directs the brilliantly talented cast in a show stopping movie that is based on the Tony award winning musical, that first debuted on Broadway in 1957.

Rolling Stones have hailed the Broadway production as ‘the greatest musical of all time’ – and the film is no different.

The plot follows the rivalry between two gangs: The Sharks and The Jets.

Two New York youngsters, Maria (Rachel Zegler) and Tony (Ansel Elgort), catch each others’ eyes but when they find out they are from different gangs their fate becomes twisted.

There is no surprise as to why this 1950’s musical-movie was awarded 91% on Rotten Tomatoes – it is a must-watch.

West Side Story is available to stream on Disney+ now.

Rocketman

Taron Egerton ‘gives an astounding, emotional, and electric performance as the legendary pop star’ Sir Elton John in the 2019 biopic Rocketman, as reviewed by 411Mania.

Buckle in as this film will take you on an emotional rollercoaster – following the life of how Reginald Dwight became global superstar Sir Elton, surpassing the many obstacles that life and fame threw at him.

Directed by Michael Gracey, this outstanding film features the trials and tribulations Sir Elton went through on his route to fame, including his strained relationship with his father, being gay in the 1950’s and his widely covered drug and alcohol abuse.

Hamilton

If you ask someone their favourite musical, you can bet Hamilton will be in the mix.

The extraordinary musical follows the life of one of America’s most decadent Foundling Fathers, Alexander Hamilton.

The film transports its audience in to the Broadway show in an intimate, timeless way – shot live from the 2016 performance at the Richard Rogers Theatre in New York City.

Hamilton has been and still is a groundbreaking musical, winning itself 11 Tony awards.

The cast is led by Lin Manuel Miranda, who takes the stage as Alexander Hamilton.

Critics have largely agree that Hamilton presents Miranda at his utmost genius.

Hamilton is available to stream on Disney+ now.

Matilda The Musical

If you are feeling a little bit ‘naughty’ then get comfy on the sofa and flick on Matthew Warchus’ 2022 fantasy musical film, Matilda the Musical.

The film is based on the 1988 novel by award winning and global treasure, Roald Dahl.

The book was first produced in to cinema in the 1996 film, Matilda – directed by Danny DeVito.

However this musical sees the plot like you have never seen it before with extra surprise twists and turns combined with the original music written by Tim Mitchen – that is still performed on the West End weekly.

Dublin-born Alisha Weir stars as Matilda in her big break performance. At only 14 years of age the child-actress stuns with her incredible vocals and unstoppable showmanship.

The cast also includes the likes of cinema legend Dame Emma Thompson, who is unrecognisable as the evil Ms Trunchbull.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

This one is quite self explanatory, EVERYBODY is talking about it….

This beautiful coming-of-age musical follows the life of Jamie, a Year 11 pupil who wishes to swap out the books for some sparkly stilettos and perform his very own drag show.

First-time screen performer, Max Harwood, stars as the brave Jamie New – who ventures in to breaking the mold and being his true self.

Sixteen-year-old Jamie battles with overcoming the prejudice from his father and bullying from his classmates to live his dream of becoming a Drag Queen.

Grab your tissues as this movie features emotional scenes of the lead on a mission to find his true identity and heartwarming moments between Jamie and his mother (Sarah Lancashire).

The British stage show, based on a true story, first came to the West End in 2017 with former Billy Elliot and Strictly star Layton Williams taking the lead role up until 2022.
