Ilaiyaraaja has accused the makers of Tamil movie Good Bad Ugly of using his songs without permission. He seeks Rs 5 crore compensation and a written apology.

Music composer Ilaiyaraaja has filed a complaint against the makers of the recently released Tamil movie, Good Bad Ugly. He has accused them of using his songs in the Ajith Kumar starrer without his permission.
In a notice that Ilaiyaraaja sent to the makers of the movie, he has claimed that his original creations – song Otha Rubayum Tharen from the Tamil movie Nattupura Pattu, Ilamai Idho Idho from the movie Sakalakala Vallavan and En Jodi Manja Kuruvi from the Tamil film Vikram – have been used in Good Bad Ugly without his consent. Ilaiyaraaja has called this a breach of his copyright and has therefore expressed disappointment.
“Such actions constitute unauthorized use, appropriation and a clear infringement of our Client’s copyright and moral rights. You may also please take note that he has never accorded any permission or consent, either express or implied, for using/altering/distorting/changing the form of the of the musical work that has been used in the cinematograph Good Bad Ugly,” a part of his notice read.
Ilaiyaraaja has also sought a compensation of Rs 5 crore from the makers of Good Bad Ugly. Besides this, he has also them to stop using the songs of the movie immediately. The music composer has also demanded a written apology from the makers.
“Remove the altered versions of the songs Otha Rubayum Tharen from the Tamil movie Nattupura Pattu, the song Ilamai Idho Idho from the Tamil movie Sakalakala Vallavan and En Jodi Manja Kuruvi from the Tamil movie Vikram and all platforms where they are published or performed; Tender an unconditional,” the notice stated.
It should be noted that the production house for Good Bad Ugly has not reacted to Ilaiyaraaja’s notice as of now.
Good Bad Ugly tells the story of a brave gangster, AK, played by Ajith Kumar, who wants to leave behind his violent life and start fresh with his family. He tries to live peacefully, but his past doesn’t let him go easily. The film has crossed Rs 50 crore mark at the box office in India.
