Japanese Breakfast has released ‘My Baby (Got Nothing At All)’ for the soundtrack of the upcoming rom-com, Materialists.

The hotly anticipated new movie, directed by Celine Song and starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, has a soundtrack composed by Daniel Pemberton, and also features covers of songs by The Velvet Underground at Nat King Cole, performed by Baby Rose.

For the part of Japanese Breakfast, real name Michelle Zauner, the song ‘My Baby (Got Nothing At All)’ follows her typical established alternative style while also encompassing a gentle country lilt which sets it apace.

A snippet of the track was first heard in the trailer for the movie, but it will now be released alongside the full soundtrack album as well as the film itself.

Song’s Materialists follows the story of a professional matchmaker based in New York, played by Johnson, having to decide between her perfect lover and rough-around-the-edges ex-boyfriend – played by Pascal and Evans, respectively.

With the film being produced by powerhouse A24, its soundtrack will also be produced by its new side record label, A24 Music, being one of its most high-profile releases to date.

For the part of director Song, her latest movie marks a continuation of her partnership with A24, following on from the release of her critically acclaimed previous film, Past Lives, in 2023, which starred Greta Lee and Teo Yoo.

The new song also marks the latest project from Japanese Breakfast, following on from the release of her fourth studio album For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) in March this year, which featured the singles ‘Orlando in Love’ and ‘Mega Circuit’.

Both Materialists and its soundtrack will be released on June 13th.
