Pop artist Paige shares the soundtrack to her perfect weekend.
If you want to listen to Paige this weekend, she reckons there’s only one way to do it: “turn it on in the lounge on a quiet Sunday morning,” she says. “Coffee in hand and sun beaming through the window.” The up and coming pop artist has come a long way since she first started making music on Paige’s Space on YouTube when she was just 12 years old and a huge fan of Lizzie McGuire, Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers.
Cut to February 2024, and she found herself on stage performing the Camp Rock classic ‘This is Me’ with the JoBros themselves, on stage in front of 12,000 people at the band’s Spark Arena show. Months later, Paige can still describe the “surreal” moment in intricate detail. “I remember looking into Joe Jonas’s eyes while we were singing to each other and the light was making one of his eyes a really bright hazel colour,” she says.
While Paige recovers from the encounter, she is also working on new music, teasing more undertones of RnB in her next chapter. In the meantime, she was happy to share the 10 songs that soundtrack her perfect weekend.
Hailey Knox – ‘11th hour’
I love the RnB/hip hop undertones of Hailey Knox. This song makes me feel really good. When I have this in my headphones I feel cool, y’know?
Wells* – ‘Everybody Wants to Know Gracie’
This song sounds like the ending of a good movie. I listened to it for the first time on New Music Friday at midnight and it’s that song you can drive to and sing really loud.
Ruby Jackson – ‘Sweeter For Me’
The lyrical GENIUS that is Ruby Jackson!!! When I listen to this song I can visualise everything she’s singing about. Love her voice, love the chords, it’s all great.
SZA – ‘Special’
Screaming “I WISH I WAS SPECIAL” at SZA’s concert in Auckland recently was everything and now I’m screaming it to myself everyday lol.
Ariana Grande – ‘don’t wanna break up again’
Ariana Grande is unintentionally my most played artist every year. This is that heartbreak song to dance to.
Meg Donnelly – ‘title’
I love the 2000’s RnB vibe coming back in. My favourite era. This song captures that really well, I just loveeeee it.
Ryan Beatty – ‘Bruises Off The Peach’
There’s a reason why he’s been writing songs for Beyoncé! I think Ryan Beatty is one of the greatest songwriters of our time and this song really shows that.
JoJo – ‘Too Little Too Late’
I’ve always said I hope the last song I listen to before I close my eyes forever. I always find myself coming back to this.
SZA – ‘Nobody Gets Me’
“HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LET YOU GO? ONLY LIKE MYSELF WHEN I’M WITH YOU!!!” SZA is such a relatable queen!
Rihanna – ‘We Ride’
I grew up loving this song, it feels like a car ride in the sun with my hand out the window.
