The ‘Mean Girls’ Musical Movie Cut These Songs From The Tracklist & It’s *So* Not Fetch

January 5, 20243 Mins Read

I watched Mean Girls for the first time when I was 11 and I was instantly hooked. How could you not be with Regina George flipping her hair elegantly while Missy Elliott’s “Pass That Dutch” plays in the background? It’s an iconic movie, and that’s why there’s been so many attempts to recreate its magic.

I saw the Mean Girls musical in high school, and I was equally in love. I didn’t know that I needed a song about the Plastics being apex predators, but I was wrong. So, when it was announced that there would be a new movie of the musical version of Mean Girls, I was thrilled.

Although the film and soundtrack are being released on Jan. 12, the soundtrack tracklist was just announced on Jan. 3. The tracklist has 13 songs compared to the musical’s 21 songs, so some are definitely cut out.

The tracklist starts with “A Cautionary Tale,” a classic song from the musical that sums up the plot as an introduction to the movie. The movie cut “Where Do You Belong?” which is about the main character Cady Heron’s first time finding where to sit in the lunchroom. Another missing classic is “Fearless,” which is about the Plastics being free of Regina.

The new movie is also missing “Stop,” “Whose House is This?” “More is Better,” which is when Cady reveals to her crush Aaron Samuels that she faked being bad at math, and “Do This Thing.”

The new movie also added their own song, “Not My Fault,” with Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion. While most people are familiar with other songs on the tracklist because of the Broadway musical, we’re still waiting patiently for the Reneé and Megan Thee Stallion duo, because I think we all know it’s going to be iconic.

However, not every fan is so impressed with the movie’s updated tracklist.

Some are trying not to jump to any conclusions before the movie is actually released, but it’s hard not to.

Some of us are just excited and hoping it does well, OK?

If you know me, you know my love for reality TV; this is the best thing I’ve ever seen.
